We are CardPop

Our cards offer an extra surprise that sets us apart from traditional greeting card companies.

CardPop’s Journey Began in 2019

During a father-son adventure at an elephant sanctuary in Thailand in 2019, CardPop founder, Christopher, along with his son, came across the ancient art of origami and kirigami.

On a small market stall, a Thai lady was selling cards with simple pop-up designs inside, which sparked Chris’s interest.

He bought some of these cards with the intention of giving them to friends and family; however, they were instead the foundation to a budding business venture.

2019 - CardPop Was Created

Upon his return to the UK, Chris began applying this paper-folding technique to his greetings card designs by using advanced laser-cutting techniques.

Beginning with basic shapes and themes, much like the ones that were on the market stand in Thailand, Chris’s card catalogue grew and CardPop was created.

Once the designs were complete, Chris began selling his unique cards in Stockport and Bury Shopping Centres, as well as establishing CardPop’s first, very simple website.

Jan to March 2020

Business was booming in the early stages of 2020 when CardPop hit its first and potentially crippling hurdle – COVID-19.

As shopping centres closed, so did the CardPop stand and what could have been to CardPop’s detriment, led to its growth.

Unfortunately, in April 2020, Chris lost his full-time job, however, he decided to use it as an opportunity to put all his energy into his “side hustle”.

April to July 2020

In April 2020, whilst operating out of his bedroom, CardPop’s website was updated, better show-casing the range of fabulous cards Chris had created.

“The Towers” were installed to help organise all the designs, but what Chris didn’t know was that operating out of his room wouldn’t be sustainable for much longer.

Just 3 Months Later

In July 2020, CardPop had grown and was moved out of Chris’s bedroom into its first office.

Over the next 8 months, Chris solely expanded the CardPop catalogue, ran the website and packed and shipped orders, all whilst working on a number of digital marketing freelance jobs.

July 2020 to March 2021

As 2020 turned to 2021, CardPop was thriving to the point where the rented office was becoming a bit too cramped…

March 2021

In March 2021, Chris made the decision to scale up CardPop, moving out of the rented office and into a bigger office, built in his back garden.

However, it wasn’t long before Chris was finding it difficult to balance CardPop with other work.

Just 3 months later, in July 2021, with business through the roof, Chris hired his first employee, Ellie, to help package and send orders, and to be the friendly face of our customer service.

2022

Fast forward to 2022, not only is our card catalogue is bigger than ever, CardPop’s team has grown from one man working out of his bedroom, to four individuals working across Manchester dedicated to providing the best service around for our customers!
